A Product Hunt launch won't make your business, but a good one delivers a concentrated burst of early adopters, feedback, backlinks and credibility. Treat it as one well-prepared event, not a magic button.
Before launch day
- Build relationships early. Be active on PH for weeks beforehand — upvote, comment. Cold launches fall flat.
- Find a hunter (optional). A well-followed hunter can help, but self-launching is completely fine now.
- Prepare assets: a crisp tagline, a clear gallery/GIF showing the product in action, and a compelling first comment from you (the maker) explaining the "why".
- Line up your supporters. Tell your email list, communities and network the date — but ask them to engage genuinely, not just upvote.
On the day
- Launch at 12:01am PT to get a full day on the leaderboard.
- Reply to every comment, fast. Engagement signals matter and conversations convert.
- Share across your channels — but never explicitly ask "please upvote" (against the rules and obvious).
- Offer something for PH visitors: an extended trial or launch discount.
After
Add a "#1 Product of the Day" badge to your site if you get it, follow up with everyone who signed up, and write a transparent recap (great build-in-public content). The traffic spike fades in days — the relationships and feedback last.
